Very First Giveaway....

So I am going to have my very first giveaway. :-D Why? Well, for a couple reasons. One, I want to expand my readership. Second, I want to do something fun for the people who read and try my recipes. :-)

The prize? "The Gluten Free Almond Flour Cookbook" by Elana Amsterdam
Believe me, even if you are not gluten intolerant or sensitive, these recipes are amazing!

"The prevalence of celiac disease and gluten sensitivity among millions of adults and children has created the need for gluten-free recipes that are as nutritious and tasty as their traditional counterparts. Popular food blogger Elana Amsterdam offers ninety-nine family-friendly classics--from Pancakes to Eggplant Parmesan to Chocolate Cake--that feature her gluten-free ingredient of choice, almond flour. Because these recipes are low glycemic, low in cholesterol and dairy, and high in protein and fiber, they are also ideal for people with diabetes, obesity, and high cholesterol.

So whether you’re looking for a quick breakfast treat, a comfort food entrĂ©e, or a showstopping dessert, The Gluten-Free Almond Flour Cookbook proves that gluten-free cooking can mean healthy eating for everyone."

Here is what you need to do~
Comment and tell me your name, blog, that you have posted about my giveaway on YOUR blog, and a food related memory from childhood. If you post it on Twitter, facebook, myspace, or another social network, comment again and let me know and that will count for another entry. You can get an extra entry if you also make another comment and tell me if you've made one of my recipes and what you thought about it!

Deadline: November 27

Here is a food related memory of my own to hopefully amuse you and kick off my first giveaway. :-)
When I was around 13 my sister was given this special exotic blend of spices. One evening when I was given kitchen duty, I decided to make spaghetti sauce for the first time and use this new spice blend. I also decided not to use a cook book and just "throw everything together". Wow, I was impressed with the tasty sauce and so was my family. As they were eating, my dad made a comment that the spaghetti sauce looked unusual. As they were finishing up, I went to go start cleaning up the dishes and I picked up the bag of spices and took a second look. The contents were moving! Yep, there were tons of black bugs in the bag! It was more "exotic" then we realized. ;-) I was so upset but there wasn't anything I could do at that point. It sure caused me to check my spices religiously from then on.

My food related memory is Nathan trying to steal my macaroni and cheese off my plate while we're eating dinner. Now I'm very possessive of my food.

Also, you can link up your giveaway on my other blog here, http://thebkeepsushonest.blogspot.com/search/label/giveaway%20links

  3. Well I don't have an active blog at the moment, but I posted it on my facebook. http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#/Blusunshine75?ref=profile

Food related memory... My dad used to make really thin huge pancakes and roll them up with strawberry jelly inside for us when we were kids. Every Saturday morning. We LOVED them.

And as to your story about the bugs... that has happened more than once! i am so paranoid now about bugs being in my food, lol.

One of my first recipes I learned as a child was from Mr. Rogers. It was a piece of cheese wrapped around a banana. As a 3 year old, I loved it and would eat it a lot. One day my aunt was babysitting my sister and I and while I was making my little snack, she looked on in disgust and told me that it looked gross! I never ate it again. :(

I'm sure this cookbook has much tastier recipes! :)

  6. k, I will post about your blog on my Facebook. You know my FB.

    A Dish to Remember

When I was a teen and learning to cook. I was given the taste of making yummy North Carolina Burnswick Stew. This is an expensive dish to make because of all the ingredients so I was told to watch it carefully. After intense instructions, I sat in front of it and did my school but the whole pot of stew burnt any way.

My dad tried to salvage when he got home it but nothing worked. Finally he looked at me and said, "I really want Chinese tonight, lets go get Chinese!" We ended up dumping the Burnswick stew outside in our backyard because the smell of it burnt was so awful, even the dog wouldn't touch it.

Then when my family got home, they gaged as they walked into the front door to the awful smell of burnt stew. It became the joke among my siblings. "Lauren burnt, 'BURN'swick stew" My siblings would always say "yeah you can cook, 'BURN'swick stew," whenever anyone commented on my cooking. None of family has forgotten even today, seven years later!

Hmmm. As for a food-related memory from childhood, one of my favorite birthday traditions was that we got to choose what my mom made for dinner. I remember always choosing fajitas (a very Americanized version). Also, I remember a cake my mom made for my brother's birthday one year (he was about 8 or 9). On the outside, it looked normal/boring (white frosting), but when she cut into it, you saw that each of the three layers was a completely different color, which she had done with food coloring. My brother loved it.

  10. Stephanie, what fun a giveaway! I remember you posting about your blog on facebook awhile ago, and I love reading food and fitness blogs, why not read one by someone I actually know. :)
You are now on my favorites list.

I have not yet tried one of your recipes, but I must say I also think kale is fabulous! My favorite way to eat kale is sauteed with a little sesame oil, garlic, and crushed red pepper. MMMMmmm
I will enjoy reading as you post all your new recipes!

  11. food memory.....my dad would always take us to try different types of foods when we were young, or if we didn't have something like BBQ sauce he's make some. He was inspirational for adventure filled eating and cooking.

    Growing up...
this might seem silly, but the thing I remember most was running errands with my Dad on the weekends and they somehow always ended up at 7-11 for a slurpy.

  13. Looking forward to reading more of your recipes on this blog! I don't have a blog, but I tweeted this giveaway: http://twitter.com/KristyRodriguez/status/5993185618.

Food memory... I made my first cake for my mom as a Mother's Day gift. I was probably about 7 years old. It was a pink, heart shaped cake. I don't know if it was any good, but my mom "acted" like it was delicious.

  14. That looks like a neat book!

My food story: As a late teen, I tried to make a birthday cake with 100% whole wheat flour. It was so tough, that my brother had to use a bread knife to slice it - sounded like a saw cutting a piece of wood. Big laughs for years! Since then, I've learned to make cookies and muffins w/o white flour... but never again tried a 100% whole wheat cake.

This month, my FIL learned he has diabetes, just 2 days before our 5 year old's birthday. It motivated me to try a new chocolate cake recipe that uses almonds (no flour) and a very low amount of sugar in order for him to be included. It was great topped with lightly sweetened whipped cream! Now both of my kids' grandpa's have diabetes (in their early-mid 50's), so it's even more important to me that I provide healthy (less flour/sugar) foods for my daughters. That book looks like it has some great ideas in it - I'd love to have a copy!
